Review of Cupping Canada Inc. Silicone Cups

Updated: Sep 10, 2019

Cupping Canada opened their virtual doors in 2018. This small company is making a big impact on the world of cupping, and let me tell you they know cups. In fact they specifically and solely focus on all things cupping. From their Evidence Informed clinical cupping courses, to supplying a vast variety of quality cups, to advocating for the highest standards in cleaning and disinfection of cups. When I first stumbled upon their website I felt like a kid in a candy store. I was immediately impressed with the array of cups with different durometers (hardness levels). Cupping Canada is not your normal "one size fits all" cupping store. I must admit I did have a moment of asking myself why would anyone need several different cups for the job and that maybe this is more of a marketing strategy. But that thought did not last long. For a tool that is basically an extension of our hands it only makes sense to use the highest quality materials, and to have a variety of these tools for specific applications. I don't use a whisk to flip my omelette, so maybe this applies to cups as well.

I have had the pleasure of working with Cupping Canada's entire line of cups and I highly recommend them. Not only are they are completely transparent with their products, any question you may have will be meet with exceptional customer service.

All of their silicone cups are free from BPA, Phlatelates, PVC and plastics. Their cups come with a recommended application from Cupping Canada and after playing around with them I understand why. They have clearly done their homework. Having said this i think its important to find what works best for you and your clients.

These are some of softest (if not the softest) silicone cups on the market even though this is hard to say exactly as not all companies divulge the durometer of their cups. Because of their softness, application is very easy and comfortable and a great choice for for those who are new to cupping, or those who have arthritis or weaker hands will love these. These are very effective for anterior chest work as I find most cups just pop off or can't get enough grip to stay on. These are also great for pin and stretch techniques. I've also used these to introduce static cupping to those new to cupping, so they get a sense of the suction and then I move on to the medium cups.

I'll be honest I do love a good dual cup. There is a certain flow that comes from using one cup for both moving and static cupping and these cups excel at both applications. These are also great for pin and stretch techniques and offer a bit more suction compared to the soft silicone. At first when started using these cups i was concerned that the black logo would deter from observing the tissue underneath the cup but there is plenty of space around the logo to keep an eye on things. I appreciate that Cupping Canada chose to use transparent cups instead of colored cups to differentiate between the hardness levels of these 3 types of cups. I now think it was quiet a smart way to make these cups with the different colored logos and once you familiarize yourself with them i think you'll appreciate them as well. These have quickly become my "go-to" cups and a double set is in order.

These cups suck in the best way possible. These are truly best for static cupping as they really do stick to the tissue. This is when platinum cured medical grade silicone really shines. The platinum inside the cup gives the cup a glass like transparency which is ideal for observing the tissue under the cup. I also appreciate the white logo on these cups so that they don't interfere with these observations. Most cups I've come across are around the 60A mark so its neat to have one slightly harder and with a stronger suction. Its amazing how such a small degree in durometer can affect a cups performance. I also appreciate the price point of these cups. Often times companies will charge more for a cup with a higher durometer (even though it doesn't cost more to produce generally) yet Cupping Canada has one price for all three sets with different durometers and made with the highest quality medical grade silicone. What's not to love about these cups.

These cups are made of a softer silicone and are best for treatment on kids, the elderly and or anyone that might require or prefer less suction. These cups have a second outer rim of silicone which allows the cup to adhere gently to the skin. I call these my training wheel cups as I've been able to use these on clients who where afraid to try cupping. Then as they get more comfortable with cupping I move into the soft two tier cups. My five year old also loves these cups These would be an asset to anyone's tool box Please note that even though these are gentle they are strong enough to produce therapeutic results.

Negative Ion silicone cups

Material: food grade silicone

Durometer/hardness level: 58A

Logo: red cupping Canada Inc.

Price: $31.99 CAD

These negative ion cups have six small pieces of tourmaline embedded in the bottom of the silicone. Tourmaline, known as "the electric stone" is said to emit negative ions when external pressure is applied to it. This piezoelectric effect is still just a theory, but a very interesting one at that. Negative ions are suggested to have a calming effect by stimulating the autonomic nervous system and helping to calm overexcited sympathetic nerves. Some say it can increase energy and also promote sound sleep. To use them simply flip them inside out, place on the desired tissue and push down. You can also place them on the skin and then push down in the center. These have some serious sticking power which makes them great for use on areas that are more troublesome for traditional silicone cups to adhere to (knees, feet...) They are also great for self care. You can easily put these on your upper or lower back yourself. I do find these a little "diggy" when placed on other parts of the body.

Push cup set

Material: Platinum cured medical grade silicone

Durometer/hardness level: 65A

Application: stationary/static cupping

Quantity: 2

Sizes: large cup 2.63"

small cup 2.25"

Color: white

Manufactured in: China

Logo: black Cupping Canada Inc

Price:$13.99 CAD

These cups are not your traditional cup. To use, simply place onto the body and push down the plunger. These cups are recommended for quick treatments and are excellent for self care. For 65A these cups are surprisingly soft. I love these cups, though I do wish they were a little more transparent.

Supreme suction silicone cups

Material: Platinum cured medical grade silicone

Durometer/Hardness level: 65A

Application: sationary/static cupping

Quantity: 2

Sizes: 2.75" wide x 2" high

Color: transparent

Price: $15.99 CAD

These cups work the same way the push cups do, but offer the most suction of all of Cupping Canada's silicone cups. These cups are recommended for athletes and those who require stronger suction to address stubborn areas. If a client still has a lingering trigger point I'll pull out these cups and that is usually enough to get the muscle to relax and let go. I do find you need a little practice with these to really get the hang of them but they are well worth the small investment.
