Review of "Integrative Facial Cupping" by Dr.Carlos Paulo
This book is only one of the few books out there completely dedicated to facial cupping. Dr. Carlos Paulo is a general practitioner from Spain. He has a special interest in alternative healing and cupping therapy. Whether you are a novice or a seasoned practitioner, there are great tips and techniques in this book that everyone can benefit from. The techniques are based on the anatomy of the face and effect the skin, muscle and fascia. There are many benefits of facial cupping. It is commonly used as an anti-aging treatment helping to ease wrinkles and puffiness. It can be used to help healing after surgery, and to treat sinus congestion. It is an incredibly relaxing treatment and can even stimulate the immune system.
You will learn about lymphatic and venous drainage of the face and how cupping affects the lymphatic system in detail. There are nice diagrams of facial anatomy, so that you really get a feel for what is happening and where it should be happening when performing these manual lymphatic drainage techniques (MLD)
There are many techniques in this book including the Venus - Star protocol, Veno- lymphatic drainage and the long journey. You'll also find face-lifting and cosmetic techniques for the cheek and eyes. There is a rejuvenation protocol and my personal favourite, the three forces protocol, which comprises of rotations, smoothing and compressions. I have taken several courses on facial cupping and I have never come across this method. There is even a complementary section involving the use of a neti pot (Jala neti) and oil therapy in the mouth (oil pulling). Dr. Carlos expands on techniques talked about by Chirali llkay Zihni and Jacquet - leroy. There are many detailed diagrams that explain when to use a fixed cup or a moving cup and in which direction and how much suction to use. He also includes a treatment plan for most protocols, so that the reader knows how long and how many sessions a week should be performed. This book is a great addition to any cupping therapy library and is and will be a favoured resource for myself and my clients. This book is available in English, French, Portuguese and Spanish and are available through Amazon, Barnes and noble, lulu.com, and blurb.com.
